How to Do Hydrotherapy at Home

We are exposed to more toxins than our liver and kidneys can handle on a regular basis. Did you know that out of 84,000 chemicals on the market today, many of which are in objects that people come into contact with on a daily basis, only 1% have been studied for safety (Source). Although replacing your cleaning supplies and body care products with less toxic substitutes, choosing organic local produce, taking immune boosting supplements are all important changes that will ease the burden, it is not enough. Actively detoxing the body is absolutely vital for our health and well being.

Hydrotherapy has a long-standing history in most culture throughout the world

Before you decide to commit to a seven day juice cleanse or ingesting a detoxing powder concoction sold at the grocery store I encourage you to try something much more simple and less stressful for your body - a gentle method of detoxifying your body,  called hydrotherapy. The good news is that you don't have to leave your home to enjoy the wonderful benefits of a simple hydrotherapy treatment. You can achieve it in your own shower!

Method

Jump in the shower, turn the hot water on for five minutes, then take a deep breath and turn the knob all the way to cold or as cold as you can handle it. Screaming is allowed especially since it helps alleviate the shock to your system. ;) Do this method several times. Spray eucalyptus essential oil in the air during  your hot/cold shower. It is refreshing and it will encourage you to take deeper breaths, all part of the detoxifying process.

Benefits

The hot water relaxes and sedates the body immediately. If you continue to stand in a hot shower for more than five minutes you will experience drowsiness, mental tiredness and muscular weakness. Cold water invigorates muscle contraction. The lymphatic system also known as the immune system relies on muscle contraction to move lymph fluid through the vessels.  A short hot/cold shower stimulates the lymphatic system and causes the white blood cells to migrate from the blood vessels into the tissues, cleaning up toxins, including bacteria and viruses, and eliminating waste. At the end of your shower you will feel refreshed, energized and ready to face the world with less toxins hiding throughout your muscle tissues.

The Pearl Day Spa also offers other gentle detoxifying treatments that stimulate the lymphatic system such as dry-brushing, steam treatments with your choice of essential oils, and herbal detoxifying wraps.  Remember--your body is a sanctuary. Don't let it be overrun by the pollution we are exposed to on a daily basis.
