The Secrets to Perfectly Waxed Skin
Body and facial hair is always a personal choice to have or change. Whether you wax, shave, pluck, or celebrate, it is a fact of life. Humans have hair, and not just on our heads. If you do decide to get rid of your body or facial hair, here are some tips and suggestions to make sure you get the most out of your waxing appointment.
First, leading up to your waxing appointment, you should stop exfoliating for at least a couple days. Exfoliation can leave the skin more susceptible to irritation, and potential lifting (that’s when layers of skin pull away and tear.) You should also stop using certain products before a waxing appointment. Retinol should be stopped for 2-5 days before, since it can thin the skin. If you’re on antibiotics, you should also postpone your wax appointment to prevent skin lifting.
Making sure your hair isn’t too long or too short before a waxing appointment is also very important. Too long, and it is difficult to get the hair out. Too short, and the wax doesn’t have enough to grab onto. It can also result in more ingrown hairs. We recommend trimming hair down to approximately ¼ inch in length-- a good visual is a grain of rice or the length of an eyelash.
If you have particularly sensitive skin, you may experience some significant redness and irritation after your service. To reduce this quickly, your esthetician may apply a calming moisturizer or cream to the area. If your skin is still looking very angry and red, try using a cool compress or even ice to reduce inflammation. For appointments focusing on intimate or leg waxing, it can be beneficial to wear looser fitting clothing for a couple days after to help mitigate any irritation from tight clothes.
And finally, using a post-wax product can minimize any redness, bumps, and ingrown hairs. We recommend PFBVanish. It can be used on the face, neck body, and even bikini areas, and is non-irritating. It minimizes bumps and ingrown hairs within 24-48 hours, leaving your skin smooth. So if you decide to wax, take some extra time and thought to ensure your waxing appointment goes smooth-- yes, pun intended.
